FBI officials previously said the death posed "no threat to any other passengers" and that the incident was isolated. “There was a lot of yelling, and the crew was alerted immediately,” cruise passenger Deborah Morrison told The Post. "The Jayhawk aircrew hoisted the man onto the helicopter and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport," a statement from the Coast Guard read. Grimes had only been aboard the Carnival Valor for a day before his sister reported him missing. The two were last seen together at a restaurant where Grimes had won an air guitar contest before going to the bathroom. Grimes said he treaded water for nearly 20 hours after falling overboard on Thanksgiving Eve -- battling jelly fish, rip currents and shark-infested waters before being airlifted by the U.S.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Police on New Providence are investigating the sudden death of a 29-year-old American man who was found unresponsive onboard a cruise ship Wednesday morning. A 40-year-old man went overboard from an MSC Cruises ship on Wednesday, marking the second time since November that someone has fallen from one of the cruise liner's ships. "We are actively providing support and assistance to the guest's loved ones at this time. Out of the privacy of the guest and their family, we have nothing further to share at this time," the spokesperson said. A guest aboard a nine-month Royal Caribbean cruise around the globe has died, the company said Tuesday.

A Virgin Voyages cruise passenger died on board the ship Sunday night, after the guest "went over their balcony onto a lower deck," the company has confirmed. A passenger was killed after an incident on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship on Saturday, the cruise line told Business Insider in a statement. On average, 19 people go overboard on cruise ships each year — and of those, only about four are rescued, Insider reported, citing a 2020 study commissioned by the industry trade group Cruise Lines International Association. A Florida woman alleges in a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday that her husband died aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean and the luxury liner’s staff failed to properly preserve the body, robbing his loved ones of an open-casket funeral. Virgin Voyages confirmed that the cruise ship was "immediately redirected back to Miami" after the incident. The company also said it is working closely with local officials as an investigation gets underway into the circumstances surrounding the passenger's death.

A cruise passenger has gone overboard during a tour of northern Europe, the ship's operator has said. Spencer Aronfeld, an attorney who sues cruise lines and posts cruise content on TikTok, recorded a video about the death. Reeta Sahani, 64, was declared missing after her husband, Jakesh Sahani, 70, woke up in the middle of the night and noticed she was not in their cabin. The coast guard and the ship's crew recovered the man's body before 10.30 p.m.
On January 24, the Washington Blade reports, shortly before the ship was scheduled to reach San Juan, Puerto Rico, at 7 a.m. Several passengers on board have been consistently documenting the journey on TikTok, sharing a peek into life at sea. The ship crossed through Mexico, the Caribbean, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador on its South America leg in January.

In June, a 42-year-old woman was rescued after she fell off Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas about 25 miles south of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic during a trip from Florida. The company told Insider it had been working with the US Coast Guard, but an agency spokesperson told the outlet that Cuban authorities are in charge of the effort because the incident occurred in their territorial waters. Carnival said it believes the initial response to the emergency medical "was appropriate," per the reports. The passenger who died on a Carnival Cruise Line ship over the weekend likely died a natural death, according to the company. Carnival Valor had said in a statement to ABC News that it conducted a search-and-rescue operation after Grimes went missing. "We are saddened to learn of the passing of a guest and our hearts go out to the family. Out of respect for them, we won't provide any further comment," Royal Caribbean told BI.
According to the Carnival representative, the man's wife was traveling with him on the Carnival Horizon, which departed Miami on Sunday and was due to return on Saturday. "The Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted the man and transferred him to officials in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos." "Both the deceased and her husband were debarked in Nassau," a Carnival spokesperson previously told PEOPLE, "and Bahamian authorities have already investigated the circumstances and are conducting an autopsy." The cruise line did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
"We greatly appreciate the efforts of all, most especially the U.S. Coast Guard and the mariner who spotted the guest in the water," the Coast Guard said in a statement Thursday to ABC News. A source on board the ship told the website Crew Center that the man fell off a balcony and hit a lifeboat shortly after midnight. A passenger on board told Fox News an announcement was made requesting that passengers donate blood.
While the company said that the passenger, Tyler Barnett of Houma, Louisiana, jumped from the ship, his family said he slipped — and that they only learned of his disappearance from family members, not from Carnival itself. The MSC Armonia was making a transatlantic voyage between Spain and Brazil when the man jumped, according to the cruise line. Per the outlet, the ship's security reviewed surveillance footage and found that the man went overboard at about 5 a.m.
On February 18, a search was suspended for a missing 32-year-old woman who reportedly jumped overboard from the Carnival Valor while off the Louisiana coast, per The Washington Post. Rescue crews covered more than 2,5000 square nautical miles during their 14-hour search for the passenger. "We are sad to share that we had an incident last night," Carnival Cruises said in a statement. "We are supporting the guest's family and others who witnessed the situation. With respect for the privacy of all involved, we will not say any more, but ask that you keep the family in your thoughts and prayers." “We are very sorry to hear about the death of a guest who sailed on Carnival Vista,” the Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement.
